Privacy Policy
Effective August 21, 2026
Guardrail is designed to keep your journal on your device. We do not sell personal data, run third-party advertising, or use food photos to build advertising profiles. A photo and any optional food hint leave your device only when you choose the food-scan feature.
Who we are
Guardrail is provided by Sai Parivar LLC ("Guardrail," "we," "us," or "our"). Questions or privacy requests can be sent to hello@saistudios.io.
Information processed on your device
Guardrail stores the information you enter locally in the app, which may include:
- body weight and the protein target you select;
- meal labels, estimated protein and calories, and daily history;
- dose timing, nausea check-ins, app preferences, and your food-scan disclosure choice.
We do not operate a Guardrail account database for this journal data. Your device's release build disables Android cloud backup for this app data. Device-management or transfer tools outside Guardrail may separately handle device data under settings you control.
Optional food-photo scanning
If you choose to scan a meal, Guardrail sends a JPEG copy of that photo and any optional food hint you enter to our serverless scan endpoint hosted by Vercel. The endpoint routes those inputs through Vercel AI Gateway to the OpenAI API to estimate visible meal components, portions, protein, calories, confidence, and useful review questions. You can remove detected components, refine, or correct the estimate before adding it to your local journal. Camera access is not required for manual logging.
The scan request tells OpenAI not to store the generated response for product history
(store: false). Our application code does not log the photo payload or scan
result. Vercel may process network and operational metadata needed to run and secure the
endpoint. By default, OpenAI may retain API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days for abuse
monitoring; retention can differ under approved data controls or last longer where required
by law or reasonably necessary to protect against harm. OpenAI states that API data is not
used to train its models by default unless the API customer explicitly opts in.
Barcode lookups
When you scan a product barcode, Guardrail sends the barcode number to Open Food Facts to look up public product nutrition data. Open Food Facts may receive standard network details, such as an IP address, under its own privacy practices. A barcode lookup does not send a food photo to Open Food Facts.
Purchases and subscriptions
If paid plans are enabled, Google Play will process Android purchases and payment information. RevenueCat will help Guardrail verify receipts, subscription status, and access to paid features. Those providers may process purchase records, app or device identifiers, and technical diagnostics under their own privacy policies. Guardrail does not receive your full payment-card number.
Support messages and technical information
If you email us, we receive the address, message, and attachments you choose to send. Our hosting and service providers may also process limited technical information needed for security, reliability, and troubleshooting. Please do not send medical records or other sensitive documents in a support email.
How we use and share information
We use information only to provide, secure, troubleshoot, and improve Guardrail; respond to support; and verify purchases. We share information with service providers only as needed for those purposes or when required by law. We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or display third-party ads.
Retention and deletion
Journal data remains on your device until you delete an entry, use Clear all local data in Guardrail Settings, clear Guardrail's app storage, or uninstall the app. On Android, you can also remove all local Guardrail data through Settings → Apps → Guardrail → Storage & cache → Clear storage; menu wording can vary by device. Guardrail disables Android cloud backup for this app data in the release build. Clearing data or uninstalling does not cancel a Google Play subscription.
Support email is retained only as long as reasonably needed to resolve the request and meet legal or security obligations. To request deletion of a support conversation or ask about data associated with you, email hello@saistudios.io.
Security and international processing
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encrypted HTTPS transmission, but no service can guarantee absolute security. Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate.
Adults only
Guardrail is intended for adults age 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information to us.
Health and medical disclaimer
Guardrail is a tracking and educational tool, not a medical device or a substitute for a clinician. Food-scan results and nutrition values are estimates and can be wrong. Do not use Guardrail to make medication, diagnosis, emergency, allergy, or treatment decisions. Contact a qualified healthcare professional for medical guidance and local emergency services for an emergency.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Guardrail changes. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date. Material changes may also be described in the app or release notes.
